The Bacteriology section at UPHL focuses on the isolation and characterization of bacterial pathogens of public health significance

We can isolate bacteria from food, environmental, clinical, and cadaveric specimens. Organisms are identified utilizing both classic biochemical assays and "state of the art" molecular and mass-spec based technologies. We employ genotypic and phenotypic tests to infer the resistance mechanisms of antibiotic-resistant bacteria found in Utah.

Please refer to the Infectious Disease Client Services Manual opens in a new tab if you have any questions about tests or specimen submission.
